The Georgia Peach!

Offered here is a handwritten and signed letter from The Georgia Peach, Ty Cobb. Dated June 1st 1944, and penned entirely in Cobb’s hand, the letter has excellent eye appeal - written on clean hotel stationery from the Barringer Hotels in Georgia, with an attractive vignette at the top of each page. The ink is bold, dark, and legible - just what collectors want in a handwritten letter.

The letter is a fascinating snapshot of Cobb’s sharp personality and restless energy. He’s writing to his business manager during WWII, discussing recent deals in Georgia that he’s very proud of, and expressing concern over food and gas rationing. He even requests gas and food stamps. It really reflects Cobb’s keen financial instincts and his activity as a businessman beyond the ball field.

"Otto,
Well I am here in the deep and hot south and I now have about all I can stand of it. I leave tomorrow morning for Atlanta, I will be there for two days then for Ft. Riley Kansas, there not over three days, then to home at Menlo Park, California. So I should arrive on the 9th or 10 of June. I would like to spend only 5 or 6 days at my place in Calif. and then to Lake Tahoe. If this can agree with your plans, then arrange to come any time to Menlo Park or Palo Alto and advising me.

I will meet you at the train. Should anything happen that you would want to phone me from San Francisco call me Palo Alto 8515. You can get any type of round trip ticket you know that end of it, and make your objective either Menlo Park or Palo Alto. If you can bring some food stamps or just meat stamps only in case we might need them but don't think so. Oh! Steal some gas stamps, this is important.

I have really done some good here in arranging some business matters, and feel I have accomplished a lot. If you should want to wire me, the only place before I get home will be c/o Hotel, Junction City Kansas, there is only one that's any good so this will catch me.

Think of nothing further looking forward to seeing you. I am, Sincerely,
Ty Cobb"
