Offered here is a 4.5" x 5.5" photo of New York Yankee legend, Thurman Munson! Munson has applied his signature in bold black ink – an absolutely flawless autograph from one of the most coveted names in the entire hobby, and a valuable addition to an already scarce photograph.

This original rookie-era image of Yankee captain Thurman Munson (circa 1970) shows him young and clean-shaven, before his trademark mustache. Just as important as the rare autograph is the photograph itself, authenticated by PSA as a Type I Original Photo - developed directly from the original negative within two years of when it was taken. Type I photos are exceptionally scarce, often with only a handful of examples known, and sometimes unique. In our research, this is the first rookie-era signed Type I photograph of Munson we have ever encountered.

Thurman Munson was more than just the heart and soul of the 1970s Yankees - he was their captain, leader, and emotional core. A fierce competitor and steady presence behind the plate, Munson helped guide the Yankees to three straight pennants and back-to-back World Series championships in 1977 and 1978. He was the first Yankee to be named captain since Lou Gehrig, a title that speaks volumes about the respect he commanded from teammates and opponents alike.

Beloved by fans for his grit and humility, Munson represented the working-class spirit of New York with quiet determination and toughness. Tragically, his life was cut short in 1979, when he died in a plane crash at just 32 years old.
