An incredible piece of history from one of baseball’s greatest pitching milestones, this Official American League Baseball was used during Nolan Ryan’s historic 300th career victory on July 31, 1990, and is beautifully signed by Ryan across the sweet-spot in blue ballpoint pen. At 43 years old, Ryan took the mound for the Texas Rangers against the Milwaukee Brewers at County Stadium in pursuit of a milestone reached by only 19 pitchers before him. In classic Ryan fashion, he threw 7 2/3 innings and struck out eight while allowing just one earned run, departing with Texas ahead 5-3. The Rangers ultimately won 11-3, officially giving “The Ryan Express” career victory No. 300. Ryan would pitch three more seasons, retiring with 324 victories and Major League records of 5,714 strikeouts and seven no-hitters - both records that still stand today.

The ball features an inscription on the side panel that reads, “Game Ball 300th Win 7/31/90” - and is accompanied by an extraordinary letter of provenance from home plate umpire Al Clark, dated July 31, 1990 - the exact day of the game. On official American League letterhead, Clark states that this was “one of the baseballs used during Nolan Ryan’s 300th victory” at Milwaukee County Stadium. Clark further notes that, as the home plate umpire that evening, he was personally responsible for and handled the baseballs used throughout the game. Few forms of provenance could provide a more direct connection to the field!

The ball exhibits substantial game use throughout, exactly as one would hope from a baseball originating from the historic contest. Ryan’s sweet-spot autograph remains bold and blue, creating a remarkable game-used artifact from one of the defining accomplishments of Nolan Ryan’s legendary 27-year career!
