The Say Hey Kid!

Willie Mays is arguably the greatest baseball player to ever live. His outstanding career numbers - 660 home runs and 3,293 hits - are even more impressive when you consider he missed most of the 1952 season and all of 1953. Following his Rookie of the Year campaign in 1951, Mays was drafted into the Korean War and missed significant time in the majors.

Here we have an amazing 9"x7" Type 1 original photograph of Mays being sworn into the Army on May 29, 1952. The image is absolutely crystal clear, and the proud look on the young ball player's face is astounding, considering the implications this would have on his young playing career... just an incredible piece of baseball history!

Type I photos are a 1st generation photograph, developed from the original negative, during the period (within approximately two years of when the picture was taken). They are extremely rare - sometimes with less than a few known to exist, possibly unique!

Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA.
