1933 Urban C. Faber, Red Faber Signed Baseball, Playing Days. PSA

Dated New Year’s Day 1933 and signed on an official National League (Heydler, Pres.) baseball, this rare Urban C. Faber single-signed ball is quite simply the finest example you’ll find—bar none. The fountain pen signature is exceptionally bold, a testament to both vintage ink and careful long-term preservation. Importantly, the ball is not game used, which further accounts for its extraordinary condition. The red and black stitching remains vivid and unfaded, and the leather surface is clean, free from the major flaws—that often affect baseballs of this era.

This ball has been socked away for decades in an advanced, high-grade private collection and is now fresh to the market for the first time. A true standout among early 20th-century signed baseballs.

Urban "Red" Faber was a Hall of Fame pitcher who spent his entire 20-year Major League career (1914–1933) with the Chicago White Sox. Known for his masterful control and endurance, Faber compiled 254 career wins, a 3.15 ERA, and was a four-time 20-game winner—an impressive feat in any era. He played a pivotal role in the White Sox’s 1917 World Series championship and continued to be a workhorse for the team well into the 1920s.

Importantly, Faber was not involved in the 1919 Black Sox scandal. His integrity, along with his remarkable performance on the mound, helped secure his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964.

A Unique Opportunity for Advanced Collectors

For collectors of high-grade, single-signed baseballs, this is a unique offering. This vintage example—signed by a legendary early Hall of Famer—stands apart in both rarity and qualityEarly signed baseballs of this caliber are increasingly scarce, especially when compared to examples signed in the latter half of the 20th century. Single-signed Red Faber baseballs are particularly few and far between—not many are known to exist. Of the total population known to exist, almost every ball was signed much later in his life and during his retirement (c.1950s-70s). Faber was not an easy signer during his lifetime, and a significant number of signed items were, in fact, signed by his wife. That makes authentic, single-signed balls like this all the more rare and desirable.

Once this piece finds a new home, it’s unlikely to surface again for decades—and if it does, it will likely command a significantly higher price. We strongly recommend this ball as a cornerstone addition that will underscore the prestige and depth of any advanced collection.

Comes with the all-important Letter of Authentication from PSA. Priced quite attractively for such an early, scarce single.
