In July 1940, Babe Ruth brought his family to Colorado Springs for a summer getaway. Though retired from baseball, the Babe remained a national icon—his days filled with public appearances, exhibition games, and photo ops. During this trip, he put on a home run spectacle at Sportsman’s Park, launched golf balls on the local courses, visited an orphanage, and even rode livestock.
This charming 3-1/2” x 5” photograph captures Ruth during that very trip, perched atop a donkey—a moment that blends his charisma with Americana. On the reverse side is a showstopping signature: “Sincerely, Babe Ruth” boldly penned in rich black fountain ink.
