Rare Warhol-Signed Exhibition Poster Showcasing Marilyn Monroe Artwork – Original Masterpiece on Display 

In 1971, the Tate Gallery in London hosted a landmark exhibition featuring Andy Warhol’s now-legendary silkscreen portrait of Marilyn Monroe, titled Shot Sage Blue Marilyn. On display for just five weeks, the work generated immense excitement—not only for its subject, but also for Warhol’s radical silkscreen process, which blurred the lines between commercial art and high art in a way the world had never seen.  Warhol based his striking rendition on the famous 1953 publicity photograph of Marilyn Monroe taken by Gene Korman.

The original Shot Sage Blue Marilyn went on to become one of the most iconic images of the 20th century. After changing hands among prominent collectors for decades, it ultimately sold at Christie’s in 2022 for an astonishing $195 million. That is not a typographical error—it realized nearly $200 million, cementing its place as one of the most valuable artworks ever sold.

This poster is one of a small handful produced to promote that historic 1971 Tate exhibition. Warhol has boldly autographed this example, which remains in pristine, mint condition, entirely free of flaws. His signature spans a striking 7½ inches across the lower white portion of the poster, providing a perfect visual contrast. The poster itself measures 19¾ x 29¾ inches.

The image of Marilyn featured here is one of the most recognizable and culturally enduring portraits in modern art.
