Ty Cobb Signed Letter from 1948, PSA
Offered here is an exceptional Ty Cobb signed letter dated May 1, 1948, written on Cobb’s personal letterhead from Atherton, California, where Cobb retired to post-career. The correspondence is addressed to Mr. Beal and written in black fountain pen in an unknown hand, with Cobb adding a bold, flowing “Ty Cobb” signature at the bottom.
In the letter, Cobb apologizes for the delay in responding to Mr. Beal’s earlier correspondence from March 25, 1948, explaining that he had been hospitalized for an extended period, which prevented him from answering letters in a timely fashion. Cobb expresses appreciation for Mr. Beal’s congratulations and fondly recalls a previous meeting and interesting conversation they shared while traveling by train and later at a hotel. He also notes his regret that he was unable to attend a baseball luncheon mentioned in Mr. Beal’s letter.
The letter appears on Cobb’s printed stationery reading “Tyrus R. Cobb – 48 Spencer Lane, Atherton, Menlo Park, California,” adding further period provenance and display appeal. It concludes with a large, bold Ty Cobb autograph, a particularly desirable feature for collectors of Hall of Fame signatures. The letter measures 10.5" X 7.25".
The piece comes fully authenticated with a PSA/DNA Letter of Authenticity, ensuring confidence in Cobb’s signature.
A strong example of post-career correspondence from one of baseball’s most legendary figures, highlighted by a clear, bold Ty Cobb signature and attractive personal letterhead—an outstanding addition for advanced baseball autograph or Hall of Fame collections.
