The 1970 season marked the true beginning of Munson’s remarkable career in New York. Just 23 years old, the young catcher immediately established himself as one of baseball’s brightest young stars, batting .302 and running away with the American League Rookie of the Year Award. It was the beginning of a career that would make Munson one of the most beloved and collected Yankees of all time.

Munson was named Yankees Captain in 1976, becoming the first player to hold the title since Lou Gehrig, and responded by winning the American League MVP Award that same season. He helped lead New York back to the top of baseball, winning consecutive World Series championships in 1977 and 1978. His career and life were tragically cut short in 1979 at just 32 years old, forever linking Munson with one of the most emotional chapters in Yankees history.
