Hall of Fame plaque postcards were produced during the mid-20th century, primarily spanning the 1940s and 1950s. Hugh Duffy passed away in 1954, leaving only a very limited period during which these postcards even existed while he was still alive. This narrow overlap severely limits how many could have ever been signed. Adding to the rarity, these postcards were sold as souvenirs rather than collectibles, and very few collectors at the time thought to have them signed or preserved. Today, it is widely believed that only a handful of signed examples survive, most likely fewer than ten, making them extraordinarily scarce and highly sought after. In this case, there are only 8 known Hugh Duffy signed HOF Plaque Postcards in circulation within the hobby!
Hugh Duffy was one of the great stars of 19th-century baseball and remains a cornerstone figure in the game’s early history. He is best remembered for setting the still-standing Major League single-season batting average record of .440 in 1894 with the Boston Nationals. His autograph is highly coveted, and signed Hall of Fame plaque postcards bearing his signature are widely regarded as virtually unobtainable.
A truly elite Hall of Fame autograph and a centerpiece-level artifact for any advanced baseball or Cooperstown-focused collection.
