Offered here is a crystal clear 1949 Jackie Robinson Type I Original Photograph capturing one of the happiest moments of the Hall of Famer's legendary career. Taken on November 18, 1949, the original 7" x 9" International News Photos image shows Robinson alongside his wife, Rachel, and their young son, Jackie Robinson Jr., as the family gathers around a birthday cake to celebrate Junior's third birthday. Yet, the occasion quickly became twice as memorable, as Robinson received word that he had officially been named the National League's Most Valuable Player. The original International News caption affixed to the reverse tells the remarkable story, noting that what began as Jackie Jr.'s birthday celebration soon turned into a double celebration after the Baseball Writers' Association of America announced Robinson as the National League's 1949 MVP.
