The Yankee Captain!
Offered is a truly special piece of Yankee history from one of the most beloved and respected figures in the franchise’s rich history… a 1970’s pinky ring personally owned and worn by the late Thurman Munson! Among his personal favorites, this custom gold ring was worn daily by the Yankee captain. Sized at 8.5, it features an impressive display of 17 diamonds (.01 - .06 carats) in the form of Munson’s initials, and an additional larger .33-carat diamond to create an elegant touch of class. While Munson proudly wore the ring every day, it remains in excellent condition with the brilliance of the diamonds shining bright like it’s still the 1970s!
Known for his leadership, grit, and impact behind the plate, Thurman Munson was the heart and soul of the Bronx Bombers throughout the 1970s - a captain in every sense of the word. Among the most accomplished Yankees of all-time, Munson was named 1970 AL Rookie of the Year, was a 7x All-Star, the 1976 AL MVP, and led the Yankees to back-to-back World Series Titles in 1977-1978. Owning a cherished piece from his personal collection is the perfect way to honor the Yankee legend, who tragically passed away in a plane accident at just 32 years old in 1979.
The ring is accompanied by a Letter of Provenance from Munson’s wife, Diana, along with a photo of him showing off the ring to Hall of Famer Frank Robinson. We’ve also included a photo of Munson wearing the ring on November 30, 1976, during the press conference announcing Reggie Jackson’s new $3 million contract with the Yankees - just two weeks after Munson was named the ’76 AL MVP!
