From the John Michael Wozniak Collection
Presented here is an extraordinary and deeply personal 1996–97 Chicago Bulls World Championship ring, commissioned by Michael Jordan himself and presented to a small inner circle of approximately 75 friends and associates to commemorate his fifth NBA Championship. This example was gifted to longtime Bulls security guard and Jordan confidant John Michael Wozniak, making it a rare off-court championship ring tied directly to Jordan’s inner world during the height of his dominance.
The 1996–97 season stands among the most complete of Jordan’s career. Leading the league in scoring at 29.6 points per game, playing all 82 regular-season games, and earning NBA MVP honors, Jordan guided the Chicago Bulls to another title as part of their second dynasty run. That era, and Wozniak himself, was later immortalized in The Last Dance, the award-winning ESPN/Netflix documentary that offered unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the Bulls’ final championship season and cemented Jordan’s relentless will to win in the cultural canon. John Michael Wozniak gained lasting notoriety through his unforgettable appearance in The Last Dance, where he famously delivered “The Shrug” after defeating Michael Jordan in a backstage coin-toss showdown. A rare, humanizing moment shared between Jordan and a trusted member of his inner circle. The scene has since become a fan-favorite highlight from the series and is captured here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/UAyP7JcoXy0
The ring itself is a stunning piece of championship craftsmanship. At its center sits a raised basketball hoop encircled by five diamonds, all set within black onyx, with an additional 90 small diamonds surrounding the ring face. The 14K gold, size 11.5 ring features deeply symbolic shanks: one reads “World Champions” alongside the Jumpman logo and “15–4”, the Bulls’ playoff record; the other displays Jordan’s iconic “23,” the Bulls logo, and the team’s dominant “69–13” regular-season mark. Preserved in Excellent condition, this ring is far more than jewelry, it is a tangible relic of one of the greatest dynasties in sports history and a true cornerstone piece for any elite Michael Jordan or NBA championship collection.
