1956 New York Yankees World Series Black Bat From the Whitey Ford Estate
Offered is a 1956 New York Yankees commemorative black bat, given only to players, coaches, and executives to celebrate the team's World Series championship. Due to its limited distribution, these commemorative bats are quite rare and coveted by memorabilia collectors. Many of these wonderful souvenirs were used for display in home bars or as actual barstool legs, and over time, many others have been otherwise lost through attrition. This one is our very first example and it belonged to Hall of Famer, Whitey Ford.
Crafted by Hillerich and Bradsby, it is finished in a sleek black lacquer finish with bright gold lettering featuring the names of the entire championship team, including manager Casey Stengel, Triple Crown winner Mickey Mantle (who also earned the MVP award that year), Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Billy Martin, Elston Howard, Don Larsen and the rest of the squad that won 97 games and defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers in the Fall Classic. That World Series also marked the only instance in baseball history where a pitcher threw a perfect game during the series, with Yankee hurler Don Larsen accomplishing the feat in Game 6.
Due to its limited release and historical significance, these bats are rare and highly valuable to collectors and fans of Yankees history, as well as World Series baseball. The fact that it was presented to this Yankee legend by the team and later offered to the public by his family makes it even more coveted by collectors and enthusiasts.
