1950 Roy Campanella Signed Government Postcard Display - PSA Certified

Here’s another incredible piece of memorabilia we uncovered, and it’s easily the Finest Roy Campanella autograph we’ve ever seen. To put it in perspective: this 3-time National League MVP (1951, 1953, 1955) signed an original 1950 postcard, dated May 16th, in pristine condition—it looks as though it never even passed through the mail. What makes this even more remarkable is the massive fountain pen signature, measuring a full 3 1/2 inches long! Such a bold and large autograph is rare for a Campanella pre-accident autograph, and he also added the inscription “Best Wishes,” which is equally large and striking.

Acquired from a seasoned Brooklyn Dodgers collector renowned for curating only the finest memorabilia, this piece is paired with a wonderful action pose of the Hall of Famer. True to his discerning taste, the collector chose a stunning action front cover of the Hall of Famer in his catching gear from the October, 1950 edition of Color Magazine, a publication that is now long discontinued and a true rarity. As always, the framing was done to the highest standard, with archival, non-glare glass and top-quality matting in an elegant frame. This was undoubtedly an expensive framing project (which comes as no surprise given the collector’s meticulous standards). In short, this finished piece is absolutely stunning.

Naturally, the signed and inscribed government postcard takes center stage as the focal point of this display. It’s the star of the show, and without a doubt, the finest example we’ve encountered in all our experience.

Campanella joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1948 and immediately made a significant impact, helping propel the team to the World Series the following year, along with Jackie Robinson and others. By 1950, he had established himself as the best catcher in the league, soon earning three MVP awards. In 1955, in addition to securing his third MVP, he played a key role in leading the Dodgers to their first and only World Championship, defeating their rival New York Yankees in a thrilling seven-game series. However, in January of 1958, a car accident left him paralyzed, rendering him unable to perform many daily tasks—most notably, signing his name. As a result, his original autographs are in very limited supply, making this one of the finest examples you’ll ever encounter.

If you’ve been searching for that rare, high-grade Campanella autograph to complete your Hall of Fame collection, look no further—this is it. And if you prefer to have your pieces graded, this one is certainly a top candidate. Quality like this is a rare find, coming along only occasionally, at best.
