1918 $2 "Battleship" Legal Tender Note.
PMG 64 EPQ Choice Uncirculated

The U.S. Treasury used the reverse of these notes to show off its powerful naval force in World War I. It was the government's way of announcing that it was ready, willing, and able to cross the ocean and travel east to the European continent if necessary. This was the first (and last) time such a profound declaration was made on currency!

This beautiful note was issued by the Philadelphia Federal Reserve and bears the portrait of President Thomas Jefferson. It sports white borders, perfect centering, sharp corners and wonderful, original crispness... Popular note among collectors in the hobby and important historically.

Note: The treasury department scaled down the actual physical dimensions of all currency to today's present size in June, 1929; its chief reason was to save the cost of paper and printing. During the Roaring Twenties the government was printing money at an extremely high rate. Sound familiar?!
