The experiment lasted just a couple of games before the idea was abandoned, leaving remarkably few Official National League Yellow Night Game Baseballs behind. Importantly, these experimental balls were not standard baseballs later painted, coated, or shellacked yellow. Their distinctive color came from dye added to the leather during the manufacturing process, making each surviving example a genuine artifact of the experiment.
